How we built the rankings
Written by Wilco Verdoold
The current AI landscape includes over 25,000 tools, ranging from well-known generative AI platforms to highly specialized solutions. To bring structure to this fast-moving space, we developed RankmyAI as a platform that provides data-driven insights into AI tool usage, impact, and relevance.
Here’s how the rankings are created and how you can help us.

To build RankmyAI, we gathered and combined multiple types of publicly available data:
- Usage data: Website and app traffic help estimate actual adoption and reach.
- User reviews: Online ratings and feedback provide insight into perceived quality and usability.
- Investment data: Funding rounds, investor profiles, and deal sizes signal market confidence.
- Company metadata: Including founding year, team size, and country of origin.
Each tool in the database is assessed using a combination of these factors. Tools are then grouped into categories, linked to specific use cases, and presented in monthly rankings. To ensure accuracy, we combine automated data collection with manual verification and enrichment.
This mixed-method approach allows us to go beyond surface-level popularity and offer structured, transparent rankings that reflect both user sentiment and market trends.
Categorization and Use Cases
Tools are tagged by domain and task, enabling users to explore:
- Broader domains (e.g. legal, education, healthcare)
- Specific use cases (e.g. fraud detection, audio enhancement, or HR automation)
Categorizing things is difficult. So we try our best. AI tools can often serve multiple purposes or evolve over time, which makes accurate classification a continuous challenge. While significant parts of our data collection are automated, we manually verify key variables such as tool classification and tool activity status to ensure accuracy. Despite these quality control measures, occasional inaccuracies may occur due to the scale and fast-paced nature of the AI landscape.
Not all tools in our database have been fully or correctly classified yet. We are actively working to improve this, and we welcome input from users to help refine our taxonomy. If you notice a tool that is incorrectly labeled or missing from a relevant category, please let us know. All feedback is manually reviewed and, where necessary, used to update and improve our data.
Our goal is to provide the most accurate and meaningful categorization possible — and your help makes that possible.

How you can contribute
We continuously add new subrankings and welcome suggestions from users. See our roadmap for our ideas, to add new ideas and to vote for ideas.
Our data and insights are available for use—as long as RankmyAI is credited as the source. If you're a student, educator, analyst, or developer and want to work with our data in new ways, feel free to contact us. We’re happy to collaborate.
