Responsible Applied Artificial Intelligence (RAAIT)

RAAIT (Responsible Applied Artificial InTelligence) is a collaborative initiative between the universities of applied sciences in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Utrecht, focusing on responsible AI applications. The program works with municipalities, provinces, and businesses to conduct practice-oriented research into the ethical and socially responsible implementation of AI technologies.

RAAIT aims to become the leading center for practice-oriented research in Responsible Applied AI by 2030. The program operates with a unique RAAIT model that encompasses three crucial levels for responsible AI implementation:

Values

The model starts with fundamental ethical values such as privacy, autonomy, fairness, and inclusivity, while also considering the ecological impact of AI.

Organized Environment

The focus is on practical implementation within organizations, including policies, people, and technical infrastructure.

AI Application

The model pays specific attention to the complete lifecycle of AI applications, from design to evaluation.

Learning Communities

RAAIT works with specific Learning Communities in three main sectors:

  • Media
  • Retail
  • Business services

These communities form a powerful connection between business, education, and research, where experts, developers, end-users, and students collaborate on practical solutions. Through these activities, RAAIT continues to drive forward the responsible development and application of AI technologies, ensuring that ethical considerations and societal impact remain at the forefront of AI innovation.
